In Tigrigna, Awetnayu means it is our victory. Awetnayu.com is the embodiment of the “Mekete” campaigns or, challenges that Eritreans endured. It is website designed to reflect the needs of the people and committed to provide relevant content that empower. We are committed to connect, sell, promote Eritrean goods and services. Awetnayu.com is reflection of the views, vision and future that Eritreans hold dear.
After the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia ended in 2000, renewed war by other means was unleashed against Eritrea. The asymmetric warfare was designed to weaken the resolve, determination, will to fight, kill nationalism, national pride, Eritrean legacy of bravery and valor. It aimed to ensure Eritreans compromise and lose their willingness to sacrifice for greater good. It was designed to demonize, sally the name, destroy the image and change the perception of the Eritrea. It was designed to kill Eritrean way of thinking, belief-system, can do attitude and self-reliance.
With the idea, if you take the head the body will fall, they openly discussed and pursued regime change. They wanted to weaken Eritrea by any means necessary. They targeted the people, the youth, the economy, military, diplomacy, agriculture, infrastructure, politics etc.. The illegal arms embargo, the economic sanctions were all part of these greater scheme. In short, it was a death sentence to independent Eritrea. The minority regime in Ethiopia in collaboration with Washington and allies concluded Eritrea is better dead than alive and did all they can to wipe her off the map.
To achieve the demise they exhausted massive resources, political capital and hits on the reputation. They utilized UN, AU, EU, Arab league etc. to achieve their agendas. Most importantly, they targeted Eritrean unity using regionalist and religious zealots to create discord and division. They employed the weak, the disgruntled and the traitors to troll and create disharmony amongst Eritreans especially in the diaspora since they believed it to be the strongest support of the government. Disinformation, misinformation based active psychological warfare was unleashed.
As the campaign against Eritrea intensified it became imperative for diaspora Eritreans to actively engage and combat the hostile campaigns directed against them. They demonstrated, organized Action-Day campaigns to email, write and petition officials in the US and around the world. Eritreans conducted lobbying and PR activities tirelessly. They fought the negative campaigns by the mainstream media day and night everywhere.
Eritreans faced unprecedented, concerted and sophisticated campaigns that aimed to antagonize, vilify, discourage, demoralize, dehumanize and belittle them into submission. Nothing was off the table. Martyrs day, Independence Day, Festivals, history of the struggle, the proud traditions of the Eritrean way and importantly the unity Eritreans have been tried.
I believed then, as I do now, that Eritrea will outlast and beat all her enemies to submission. So, I started writing using Awetnayu@hotmail.com email address that is born out of the realization that victory is ours. It is part of the Eritrean motto Victory for the Masses.
In May of 2018, it will be 20 years since the war started. Eritrea has turned a corner for the better. The enemy of Eritrea the minority regime Tigray is on its death bed terminally wounded. Washington has changed its tune. Alliances have changed in favor of Eritrea. Hence, it is time for Awetnayu.com.
